Château Malartic-Lagravière, a distinguished Cru Classé de Graves, was previously owned by the Champagne house Laurent-Perrier. In 1997, the estate was acquired by the Belgian couple Michèle and Alfred-Alexandre Bonnie. Today, their son Jean-Jacques and daughter-in-law Séverine manage the property, continuing the family’s commitment to producing world-class Bordeaux wines. The vineyard spans 47 hectares, with 7 hectares devoted to white grape varieties. Situated on a fine gravel ridge in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the estate benefits from excellent terroir, although the surrounding area is now approaching suburban expansion. Château Malartic-Lagravière produces high-quality red wines alongside a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc-dominated white wine. The red blend is composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 25% Cabernet Franc. Fermentation is carried out in a combination of wooden vats and stainless steel tanks, followed by up to 15 months aging in oak barrels, around 50% of which are new. The introduction of the second wine, La Réserve de Malartic Rouge (formerly Le Sillage de Malartic), has contributed significantly to the estate’s ongoing quality improvements. In recent vintages, no more than 60% of the harvest is allocated to the Grand Vin, reflecting a strong focus on excellence and precision by the current owners. Château Malartic-Lagravière’s red wines are elegant and well-balanced, often austere in youth but developing exceptional complexity and a distinctive mineral character with age. These wines embody the hallmarks of Pessac-Léognan clarets and offer outstanding potential for collectors and investors in the fine wine market.
