Château Malescot St. Exupéry is a prestigious winery in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, classified as one of fourteen Troisièmes Crus (Third Growths) in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Wine Official Classification. The estate was acquired in 1955 by the Zuger family, who invested heavily to elevate its quality and reputation. Today, Château Malescot St. Exupéry is recognized as one of the best-maintained and most quality-driven estates in Margaux and is run by Jean-Luc Zuger. The winery and cellars are located in the town of Margaux, while the vineyards consist of five distinct parcels spread across the commune. The estate’s 30-hectare vineyard is planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. The vines are densely planted at 10,000 vines per hectare, with an average age of 35 years. The wine undergoes aging in 80% new French oak barrels, ensuring structure, elegance, and long-term aging potential. A second wine, La Dame de Malescot, is also produced from younger vines and selected parcels. Château Malescot St. Exupéry produces wines that can be light and restrained in their youth but, with 6 to 7 years of cellaring, develop a seductive perfume, silky texture, and harmonious balance.
