Château La Mission-Haut-Brion is widely regarded as one of the finest wines of Graves, second only to Château Haut-Brion and, in some vintages, considered even superior. The estate is located just across the road from Haut-Brion in the commune of Talence, in the southern suburbs of Bordeaux. Since 1983, both estates have been under the same ownership, Domaine Clarence Dillon S.A. The vineyards of La Mission-Haut-Brion are planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc. They sit atop a deep gravel bank, reaching up to 18 metres in places, interspersed with clay, providing exceptional drainage and ideal conditions for producing structured, complex wines. Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by maturation in 100% new oak barriques for 18 months. The resulting wines are rich, powerful, and layered, displaying the characteristic elegance of top Graves wines. La Mission-Haut-Brion requires at least ten years of bottle ageing to reach its full potential, making it a prized acquisition for collectors and a compelling investment in the fine wine market.
