Château Peyrabon is a historic Bordeaux estate with roots dating back to the mid-1700s, and the château itself was built in 1766. By the late 19th century, Château Peyrabon’s wines were priced on par with some of the 1855 Classified Growths. The estate’s former owner, Arnaud Roux, even attempted legal action in 1869 to have Château Peyrabon included in the official Medoc Classification, though the judges ruled against him and the 1855 Classification remained unchanged. Under the stewardship of Patrick Bernard, the estate has expanded and modernized significantly. Bernard invested over €2 million in vineyard improvements, including replanting 11 hectares of vines, cutting down trees to improve airflow, installing a new drainage system, and modernizing the cellars, winemaking facilities, and château. The Château Peyrabon vineyards cover 57 hectares across the Left Bank, including 40 hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation and 7 hectares in Pauillac. The Pauillac vines, planted to 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot, produce Château La Fleur Peyrabon, a wine known for its approachable style and exceptional value. La Fleur Peyrabon is vinified in temperature-controlled tanks, undergoes malolactic fermentation in vat, and is aged for 14 months in 50% new French oak barrels. Annual production is approximately 2,500–3,000 cases. The main Château Peyrabon vineyard benefits from a terroir of sand, gravel, clay, and limestone. Vine density ranges from 6,500 to 8,500 vines per hectare, with newer plantings at higher densities. The average vine age is 25 years. Grapes are harvested using a combination of mechanical and manual methods, then vinified in stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation occurs in tank, and the wine is aged in 33% new French oak barrels for roughly 14 months before bottling. Château Peyrabon produces around 35,000 cases per vintage and is recognized for its classic Left Bank style: structured, elegant, and well-balanced, offering both immediate appeal and aging potential.
