Tayac

Value your wine
Château Tayac is a distinguished Bordeaux estate with 37 hectares of vineyards located on the gravelly soils around Soussans. The estate has been in the hands of the Portet family for four generations, with a long tradition of careful vineyard management. Guy Portet employs the Methode Cousini, a holistic system of observation and analysis that ensures the vines remain healthy with minimal intervention. This technique involves biochemical mapping of the soils and detailed examination of the leaves and trunks, allowing the team to rebalance biodiversity, strengthen vine defenses, and optimize soil composition while letting the vines express their natural character. Nicolas Portet oversees the winemaking at Château Tayac, crafting wines that are harmonious, balanced, and expressive of the exceptional quality of the fruit. The grapes are fermented in a combination of cement and stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and varietal expression. The wines are aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, 35% of which are new, resulting in a polished structure and subtle complexity. The blend typically consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, producing wines with depth, elegance, and the potential to age gracefully. Château Tayac combines traditional vineyard stewardship with modern winemaking techniques to produce Bordeaux wines that showcase the terroir of Soussans and the expertise of the Portet family. The estate’s commitment to sustainable practices and careful oak aging ensures wines that are expressive, well-balanced, and reflective of the unique character of this historic Medoc property.
